Throughout my career in education, a constant and contributing factor in my professional development has been the presence of mentors. These individuals provided me with guidance and support as I navigated the complex and ever-changing landscape of education and leadership. Their expertise has helped me develop the competence, confidence, and courage to lead, even under the most challenging conditions. I am grateful for the time and energy they have invested in me.

From my own experience, I quickly realized the importance of mentoring others, providing similar guidance and support, and helping to develop the next generation of educational leaders. As a result, I have served as a mentor for a number of educators serving in leadership roles. As the education landscape evolves and the complexities increase, the profession needs skilled and knowledgeable individuals who can navigate the realities of leading in today's context.
Mentorships can take many forms, from conversations and check-ins to formal and structured coaching and training programs. For example, I am interested in using the process as a component of our "grow your own" initiative, designed to prepare members of our district staff to grow in their careers within our school district.
Regardless of your approach, the key is to provide guidance and support tailored to the mentee's individual needs and goals. This requires a deep understanding of their strengths and areas for growth and a willingness to invest time and energy in their development.
As we develop skilled and knowledgeable leaders, we are better equipped to meet the needs of our students and communities. By investing in the next generation of educational leaders, we are helping to ensure that our schools and districts are well-equipped to face future challenges.
